Gillette Super Speed
During the production of the Super Speed, Gillette manufactured several different styles of the razor -- the 40's style, Black tip, Flare tip, Blue tip, Red tip and the Black handled Super Speed. The early designs before 1952 did not have a date code on them so it can be difficult to tell what year the razors were made. Some of the models were manufactured with aluminum plating, nickel plating and some made with steel, it depends on the year it was produced. With it's weight and design the razor was made to last and to give a great shave. A quality razor crafted for perfection, the Super Speed razor has provided many with generations of double edge shaving.

The super-speed that I have found to be the best manufactured for fit and quality has been the Red Tip. The overal quality of other years/styles that I’ve tried has been only so-so.
I found a brand new super-speed razor (unused new in plastic case in Christmas gift box with new blades and new unopened tube of K-34 Gillette Lather Shaving Cream) at an antique mall for about $30. The mechanism is nice and tight. I remember using one of these back in the day. I shave with a straight razor now but… one of these days…
I have a flare tip Super Speed from 1956. Somehow, the whole is more than the sum of its parts – it’s a great shaver! It works perfectly & handle is bright & shiny, although the finish on the head is a bit worn. I paid 4 bucks for mine at a flea market though, so I couldn’t be happier!
I have a 1967 ss I bought on eBay. I am 70 years of have returned to de shaving lately and have found this razor to be mild and has nice feel in my hand.
